Here’s How to Access your UAN Number Online

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) announced in 2014 that every EPF account holder will have a Universal Account Number (UAN).

Upon UAN activation, account holders can get the following benefits:

  • Hassle-free transfer of PF from an old to a new account
  • Efficient management of your EPF account
  • Quick withdrawal of your PF balance

What is UAN number?

It is a unique 12-digit number provided to every individual who holds an EPF account.

Previously, each account holder was assigned a Member ID. This ID changed as the employee switched organisations. Hence, transferring the PF balance from one account to another involved considerable red tape.

The UAN has helped eliminate this inconvenience. The number remains the same throughout your employment tenor, although your Member ID will change.

How to Access UAN?

Many a time, employers provide the UAN with your salary slip. If not, then you can access it online.

Follow these steps if you don’t know how to get UAN number online:

  3. The page will redirect to a new website
  4. Click on “Know your UAN status”

How to Activate UAN?

You should know how to activate your UAN number to use the portal. The UAN activation process is almost similar to the above.

Follow these steps after I and II mentioned above:

  2. Provide the following
    – Member ID/Aadhaar/PAN
    – Name
    – Date of Birth

The UAN activation process can also be done online by sending an SMS to 7738299899. The body will include EPFOHO ACT,“12-digit UAN”,“22-digit member ID”. Do not provide any space before and after a comma.

How to Link Aadhaar with UAN?

You may have to link your Aadhaar with your UAN, although it is not mandatory. Visit the dedicated page of EPFO to do the same. Next, provide your UAN-linked mobile number.

Click “Generate OTP”. Enter the OTP sent to your mobile. Then, provide your gender, Aadhaar number, select the Aadhaar verification method, and click “Submit.”

The next page will show your UAN number and Aadhaar number. Click on “Proceed for OTP verification.”

Next, select how you want to receive the OTP – SMS or email. You can select both the options provided they are linked to your Aadhaar. A warning message will appear if your Aadhaar does not include your mobile number and email.

Click “Generate OTP.” Enter the OTP you have received and hit “Validate OTP”. After doing so, your Aadhaar and UAN will be linked.

Linking these two may make it more hassle-free to access your account of Employee Provident Fund. It is also necessary to complete your KYC procedure.

Aadhaar is one of the crucial KYC documents which can help you avail numerous services.

Do remember to link your Aadhaar after completing the UAN activation process. An Aadhaar-linked UAN will make it easier for you to access and manage your EPF passbook.
